Dora Barrett White

Raleigh.....................DORA BARRETT WHITE, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. She was born February 28, 1930 in Farmville NC, where she grew up. She was married to William H. (Bill) White for 59 years, while raising their four children in Elizabeth City, NC. Dora graduated from Women's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC-Greensboro) with a major in Spanish and English. She taught Spanish until becoming a stay-at-home Mom. She dedicated her days to her family and handled all of the details with unselfish love and commitment. She had strong faith and intertwined that in all of her years. She and Bill retired to Chapel Hill, where they started another chapter together developing new friendships. She had a passion for music, including playing the piano, pipe organ and participating in the church choir. Recently, she had transitioned into Assisted Living at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh. Dora stayed active with new friendships, bridge, bingo, reading daily, and day trips. She was preceded in death by her husband and her oldest son, Alan White. Dora is survived by her children: Henry White and his wife, Fran; Dorothy Gupton and her husband, Steve; Becky Mooney and daughter-in-law, Stephanie White. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jessica and Bryson Pender, Allison and Lauren White, Braxton Robertson, Scott and Stephen Mooney. Dora was loved by many and will be missed tremendously. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 21st from 1:00-1:45pm at Farmville Funeral Home on East Church Street Farmville, NC. A graveside service will follow the visitation at Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville. A memorial service will take place at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh on August 23, 2016, at 3:00 P.M.
