Henry Fields Obituary

Walstonburg............................................Henry Grey Fields, 87, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at his home in Walstonburg surrounded by his family. Mr. Fields was a native of Greene County and was born to the late Seth Grey Fields and Sarah Sawrey Fields on December 23, 1929. He was a God fearing man who loved his family, his community and his country. Mr. Fields was a lifelong member of the Walstonburg United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 332. Mr. Fields was a hardworking steward of the land and provided well for his family. He was an active farmer until his death. He served on the Greene County FSA Committee for 41 years and also served on the Greene County ABC Board for over 30 years. He was a charter member of the Greene Citizens for Responsible Growth. He assisted in establishing a Greene County Wildlife Club which contributed to establishing local wildlife laws and he took personal joy in mentoring young hunters in the community over several generations. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the love of hunting. Mr. Fields was an avid sportsman in his youth and young adulthood and his interest extended into later years with the enjoyment of watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sports. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fields was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Rouse Fields, and his brother, Carson E. Fields. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, of 27 years, Linda Fields, of the home; his sister, Mary Ellen Boyce and husband, Julian of Garner, NC; his son, Henry Grey Fields, Jr. "Chuck" and wife, Joy of Walstonburg; daughters, Debbie Murphy (Rex) of Snow Hill, Kathy Blizzard (Donnie) of Stantonsburg and Angela Woolard (Bennie) of Farmville; his grandchildren, Amber Joyce Fields, Henry Grey Fields, III "Trey", Brandon Carraway (Malaine), Jon Carraway (Marissa), Christopher Murphy, Patrick Murphy (Meredith), Laura Murphy, Luke Blizzard (Dena), Marianna Blizzard, Bynum Walston, Garrison Walston and Lindy Grace Walston; his great-grandchildren, Aubrey Carraway, Millie Carraway and Maggie Murphy; special family member, Wade Walston; and his many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, February 9th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Tony Glass. Interment will follow in the Walstonburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home, 1070 Howell Swamp Church Road. Flowers are welcomed but in lieu of flowers people may consider memorials to Howell Swamp FWB Church or Walstonburg American Legion. Online condolences may be made at www.farmvillefh.com.
