Farmville..........................Velma Wooten Tyson, age 98, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Wilmed Nursing Center in Wilson. Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 26, at 11:00 A.M. at Snow Hill Cemetery by Rev. Jack Weathersby, former pastor of Friendship Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she has been a member for 70 years. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A native of Greene County, she had lived in Farmville for the past 18 years. She was born September 7, 1918 to William Marvin Wooten and Lucy Johnson Wooten. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlos E. Tyson and eight siblings; sisters, Ethel Stepps, Katie May, Martha Wooten, and Bertha Mae Davenport; and brothers, Chester, William, Raymond, and Ernest. She had an absolute faith in her God to sustain her, a work ethic that made her a force to behold, and an unconditional love of her family. She gave of her time and talent; believing it her mission to feed everyone in her corner of the world. Survivors are a son, Charles S. Tyson (Linda) of Wilson; daughter, Myrtle Ruth Tyson Ramsey of Southport; three grandchildren, Angie Stocks (Andy), Charles Edward Tyson (Jessica) of Wilson, and Kevin A. Ramsey of Southport; three great-grandchildren; and many special and caring nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friendship Original Free Will Baptist Church, 2585 Friendship Church Road, Farmville, NC 27828. Arrangements are by Farmville Funeral Home.
