Carrie Shelton Sermons

Walstonburg..............................Carrie Shelton Sermons age 91, more recently of Spring Arbor, Greenville, lost her battle with dementia on July 16, 2018. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 18, at 2:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Glenn Batten. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens near Farmville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Carrie was born July 12, 1927, to Larry and Eleanor Beamon Shelton. She was a lifelong resident of the Walstonburg community and a member of Walstonburg Christian Church from childhood, where she was very active for many years. She worked at Herring Seed Company, Stantonsburg. She and her husband, Bill Joe, were married in September, 1945, upon his return from military service in Germany. In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, W. J. Sermons, Sr.; a daughter, Ann Speight; brothers, John and Brooks Shelton; and sisters, "Ree" Davenport and Helen Gay. She is survived by a son, W. J. Sermons, Jr. and wife, Linda of Plymouth; sister, Eleanor "Byrd" Letchworth and sister-in-law, Shirley Moore, both of Walstonburg; granddaughters, Leigh Anne Howard of Farmville, Shannon Sermons and husband, Brent McCraven of Raleigh, and Diana Rath and husband, Travis of Greenville; grandsons, Brad Speight and wife, Jessie of Monroe and Mike Craft of Beaufort; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
