Aileen Gardner Higgins

Aileen Gardner Higgins, 95, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025. She was born September 29, 1929 to the late Linda and Clifton Gardner. She was also predeceased by her husband, Joseph Patrick Higgins along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Aileen was the organist and pianist at her church, sharing her longtime love of music with others. She started her banking career at the Bank of Fountain, which later became Edgecombe Bank and Trust. Following her jobs in Fountain, she joined Southern National Bank in Wilson and was named Assistant Vice President. She also loved her family, reading, animals and especially her computer time.

Interesting things that folks might not know about Aileen was that she loved Taco Bell, desserts, she played basketball at Fountain High School, and she and Pat enjoyed taking their boat in the eastern North Carolina waters.

She is survived by her daughter Norma and husband Peter Stilwell of Pinehurst, NC, and grandsons Andrew Stilwell and wife Dana of Huntersville, NC, and J.T. Stilwell of Pinehurst.

The family wishes to thank her wonderful daily caregivers: Lupe, Karen, Dianne and Mary. Special thanks go to her nephew Hugh who gave his loving support and help at any time, day or night.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 22 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the former Fountain Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, 5851 East Lang Street, Fountain, now called Open Table Church. A private graveside service will be held later. Farmville Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
