Anita Everett Powell

                                                                               Anita Everett Powell, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on May 3, 2024.  Anita was born January 3, 1939 in Robersonville, North Carolina to Remus and Carrie Dell Everett. She graduated from Robersonville High School in 1957.  After graduation she attended Meredith College graduating in 1961 with an education degree.  She taught seventeen years in Kinston City Schools and three years in Farmville.  She was an elementary school teacher with kindergarten always being her favorite.

                                                                                Anita was an avid traveler, a great love to her.  She accompanied her husband Frank on many trips around the world.  Anita also loved to paint, a hobby she shared with her sister Betty Carol.  Their paintings are displayed in her townhouse at the beach which was her favorite gathering place with family and her dear friends.  She loved to play bridge, attend literary club, and the garden club.  She was a member of Farmville United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Friends of the May Museum in Farmville.

                                                                                Anita was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years Frank Lawson Powell, her parents Remus and Carrie Dell Everett, and her beloved sister Betty Everett Carlson.  She is survived by her nephews, who were like sons, Scott Everett Carlson, his wife Sweety, and their son Shaan; Matthew Loyd Carlson and his wife Lauren; and her brother-in-law Rodney Carlson.  She is also survived by her niece who was like a daughter, Mary Catherine Harrison, her husband Ben, and their daughters Ann Frances and Sarah Lawson, as well as her sister-in-law Barbara Ann Francis.

                                                                                The family would like to thank Linda Jones for the many years of help and support which she provided for Anita and Frank and Diane Byrd and her amazing staff who provided excellent care for Anita in this last year.

                                                                                A memorial service to honor her life will be held Friday, May 10 at 2 pm at Farmville United Methodist Church by Rev. Daniel Pantoja, with a visitation and reception immediately following in the church fellowship hall.

                                                                                In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Farmville United Methodist Church, 4588 West Church Street Farmville, NC 27828.
