Farmville…………………….Charles Clarence Walston, age 82, died Friday, December 9, 2022 at his home.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 14, at
2:00 P.M. at the Farmville United Methodist Church by Rev. Kuda Kwashe. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Walston and Sarah Virginia Dail Walston; and sister, Betty Joan Walston.
Charles was a loving and devoted husband of 60 years. He took his vows to his wife seriously. Together, he and Nan took care of their parents as their health declined. Charles also took his role as daddy seriously. If a child wanted to be a scout, Charles became the scout master that took them all the way to being an Eagle Scout and If one of his children was interested in sports, he became the coach. Through the scouting and athletic programs that he was involved in—he influenced many young lives besides the lives of his own children.
Charles was also a faithful member of the Farmville United Methodist church for well over 40 years. He was a quiet leader in the church as a Sunday School member, active member of the United Methodist Men and an MYF counselor for several years.
Charles loved farming in any capacity and taught his children a strong work ethic through the farm work. After he retired from farming, he worked at Collins and Aikman until it closed and then started a lawn care business.
Charles was not a rich man, but not too long ago he said that he knew he was nearing the end but that he had had a good life—that sums up the life of Charles Walston
He is survived by his wife, Nan Walston of the home; sons, Taylor Walston and wife, Rachel of Burlington and Scott Walston and wife, Angie of Edenton; daughter, Teraza Foster of Winterville; grandchildren, MacKenzie Walston, Brigham Walston, Teancum Walston, Abigail Walston, Zach Walston, Anna Scott Walston, Coleman Foster, and Jackson Foster; sisters, Deborah Walston Putnam and husband, David of Kings Mountain and their children, Sabrina Glenn and Brian Putnam.
