David Nanney Jr. Obituary

Farmville…………………………………. David Howard Nanney Jr., age 70, passed away July 7, 2024.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 10, at 2:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jeff Toler. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorials Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home.

Mr. Nanney spent roughly 63 years doing what he loved, farming.  Later in life he was proud to work alongside his boys and grandsons.  He was sharp, acquiring everything he had in life through hard work.  He loved his wife, Dorothy Mae, and cared for her up until her passing 2 years ago.  When he wasn’t farming you could find him riding the fields checking his crops and spending time with his family, who all cherish their time with him and appreciate the values he instilled in them.  He was a supportive father who taught his children strength and leaves behind an amazing work ethic within his boys. Howard Jr.  was well-known and enjoyed working with fellow farmers and the agriculture community.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Edwards and husband, Louis of Macclesfield; sons, John David Nanney Jr. and wife, Melissa of Farmville, Eugene Cayton and wife, Lynn of Farmville, Thomas Cayton of Greenville; mother, Frances Nanney of Farmville ; sisters, Teresa Harris of Farmville, Marie Joyner of Greenville; grandchildren, Sheryl Cayton Wynn, Michael Cayton, Chasity Cayton Hardison, David Edwards, Frankie Edwards, John David Nanney Jr., Carley Edwards, Ally Nanney, Grace Nanney and great-grandchildren Ainsley Hardison and Dwayne Hardison.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice for all of their love and care, as well as 3HC Hospice, especially Kristen Joyner who went above and beyond to care for him even if it was simply taking a ride.  The family is eternally grateful for each of you.
