Mrs. Dorothy Dean Vandiford Chappelear passed away into her eternal home on Saturday April 8, 2023. An avid churchgoer, she was a member of Marlboro OFWB Church where she served for many years on various committees, Sunday School teacher, youth director, youth leader, and member of the Women’s Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Farmville Order of the Eastern Star.
Born in Greene County, she grew up on the farm until she married the love of her life, Fred Chappelear. She served faithfully as a Marine wife for nearly 30 years, until Fred’s retirement. They enjoyed their time together in retirement and worked towards making their community a better place.
She is predeceased by her husband, Fred L. Chappelear, and her son, Charles E. Chappelear. She is also predeceased by several siblings and other family members.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn C. Watson, her granddaughter, Julie W. Godwin and husband Chris, grandson Daniel C. Watson and wife Aurora, grandson Michael L. Chappelear and wife Dawn, and grandson Matthew J. Chappelear. She is also survived by her great grandson, Noah F. Godwin, and daughter-in-law, Donna B. Chappelear. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Barbara V. Shaut, Sandra V. Jones, Lou V. Banta and husband Paul, and Addie V. Gatlin.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 15 at 3:30 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stephen Prescott. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:30 until 3:30 P.M.
