Elder Kenneth Earl Windham

Nashville…………………………..Kenneth Earl Windham, son of Roxie and Wilbert Windham, was born Aug 30th, 1952, in Wilson, NC. Raised by his parents in neighboring Sharpsburg, Ken learned the value of hard work from an early age by helping in the country store his parents owned and operated. Ken was a bright child, exceeding expectations in school.

He was also called by God into the ministry quite young—even among his academic pursuits and finding love, he never wavered from his calling. He was ordained in the church when he was just 19 years old, after years of internal turmoil that led him to realize his calling to be a Primitive Baptist preacher. He would continue to preach during college and the rest of his natural life. It was during this period he also met Carla Lewis, but they wouldn’t start dating seriously until he was nearing graduation from college.

Ken’s strong work ethic took him to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a BA in Physics and minor in English. Immediately after graduation, Ken married Carla (Dec 14th, 1974), and they began to build a wonderful life together in Durham, NC. Ken and Carla would go on to have two children, Kenneth Eric Windham (’79) and Kevin Matthew Windham (’81).

But his higher calling was pulling him closer to home. Ken worked for Wilmore Electronics and Sony Corporation, among other places early in his career, but ultimately settled into a teaching position at Nash Community College. His focus on his family and church led him to find a job that would be more suitable for making the life he and Carla wanted together. Ken would go on to teach at NCC for over 35 years. By the time he retired, Ken had touched the lives of thousands of people through his career and ministry.

Kenneth Windham’s legacy is that of service and family. He served God’s purpose for his life through his calling into the ministry; he served his community through the investment he made in his students; and he served his family and church through the many things he did for them on a daily basis. He leaves behind his two sons, Eric and Matthew, and his wife Carla, as well as his daughter-in-law Lori and two grandchildren Bonnie and Thomas. All love and miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday February 7, at 2:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Jimmy Gray. A committal service will follow at the Autrey’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
