Genevieve “Jenny” Horne Childers, 86, went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2025 in Gaffney, SC. “Bebe”, as known affectionately by her family, was born and raised in Shelby, NC to Horace Lee and Clara Reid Horne on Dec. 13, 1938.
Jenny loved sports and was a star basketball player at Shelby High School. After college, while working at PPG in Shelby, she met her future husband, Jesse B. Childers. Jesse and “Sam”, as he called her, moved to Farmville, NC in 1969, then to Greenville, NC in 1973.
Jenny became the first female Police Officer for the Farmville Police Department, moving up to the position of Lieutenant, where she worked until retirement in 1999. During her time on the force, she began coaching Little League baseball and coached for more than 35 years, stopping at the age of 79. Due to declining health, she moved back to Shelby in 2019 to be closer to family.
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse; brother Wallace Horne and wife Marie; brother Henry Horne and wife Yvonne; sister Iris H. Maloney and husband Robert; and nephew Josh Ferree.
She is survived by her son Mike Childers and wife Mary-Ann of Gaffney, SC; step-daughter Pam Childers of Forest City, NC; grandson Mason Childers and wife Candice of Winterville, NC; grandson Jamison Childers and wife Amber of Shelby, NC; great-granddaughter Annalise Childers of Winterville, NC; brother Garnie Horne and wife Robin of Louisa, VA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family that she loved dearly.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00pm at First Wesleyan Church, 505 N. Piedmont Ave., Kings Mountain, NC 28086. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.
A Celebration of Life service will held on Tuesday, May 6 at 2:00pm at Ignite Church, 4150 Bayswater Road, Winterville, NC 28590.
