George Moore Obituary

Farmville…………………………..George Washington Moore Jr., born on October 25, 1945, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025.  Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Farmville Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Farmville, NC. The family will have visitation Thursday, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Farmville Funeral Home and other times at the home.

“George Jr.” grew up in Greene County, 5th in line of 7 children. As a young man he knew what it was to work hard and try your best, because that is what was expected.  These attributes were evident in his life in his healthy years and more so as he struggled with his health over the last 31 years.  He never stopped being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  His joy in life was seeing his children and grandchildren achieve their goals, whatever they were and wherever they took them.

He loved coaching Little League baseball for both men and women’s softball teams in Farmville.  When his health allowed, he enjoyed playing golf, carpentry, and sitting on the front porch swing and waving at all the passersby.  He was a faithful member of Aspen Grove OFWB Church, where he served as deacon, choir member, and sang in a quartet. He knew knowing and serving Jesus was the most important decision in his life.

George Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy E. Moore; daughter, Hope Moore Field of Marietta, Georgia; son, Mitchell Moore and wife, Julie of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Olivia Moore, Connor Field, and wife, Farnoosh, Adam Moore and wife, Halie, Morgan Field, and Zack field; sister, Ruth Lovitt of Farmville and brother David Moore and wife Paulette of Farmville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Moore Sr. and Mary Mozingo Moore, brothers, Roy and Gene Moore, and his sisters, Mary Braxton and Christine Wells.

We would like to thank Gentiva Hospice of Greenville for the care, love and support to George and his family. Thanks to Jerry Owens for the times he spent keeping George company, especially during the years of his declining health.  Their favorite snack was Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and moon pies.
