Gertrude Little Nichols

Greenville……………………………………… Appie Gertrude “Gerty” Little Nichols of Greenville, NC passed away Saturday May 27, 2023.

Mrs. Nichols will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 3:00pm at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Gerty was born on September 21, 1932 to William Travis and Lela Gertrude Harris Little in Wilson, NC. She was the youngest of 8, Christine Little Nichols, Edgar “Buddy Row” Little, Travis Little Jr., Joseph Little, James Little, Doug Little, and Warner Lee “Dink” Little. Her parents and siblings proceeded her in death.

Gerty was happily married to her high school sweetheart, Luther Green Nichols, for sixty-five years before he passed away. Together they raised 3 children, Faye, Ray, and Elaine. Marshall and Faye Schiller, Ray and Debbie Nichols, and Kurt and Elaine Hinchman further blessed their family with eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Gerty was an exceptional seamstress and worked for Bowen Cleaners for many years. In her free time, she loved to paint and many family members are lucky enough to have pieces of her art hanging in their homes. She was also an avid gardener and florist. Her yard was exceptionally kept and even into her later years, she spent lots of time planting and tending her flowers.

Gerty will be laid to rest with her husband in Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville, NC.
