Greenville…………………...Harold John Souza Jr., age 73, died Thursday, February 22, 2024.

                                                Mr. Souza was born on July 19, 1950 in Maui, Hawaii. Following high school Mr. Souza joined the U.S. Army where he was given the nickname “Pineapple”. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served three tours. His service spanned from August 20, 1969 to February 22, 1972 where he served as a sniper, in rescue and recovery, earned the title marksman, and received two purple hearts, a bronze star and a silver star. During his service his fellow servicemen would paint pineapple power on his command trac that he used to sleep on. He also obtained his black belt in Karate.  

                                                After his service Mr. Souza worked as a mechanic for over twenty-five years. Some of his enjoyments in life were country music especially Freddy Fender, Elvis Presley, Hawaiian music, the flower bird of paradise (Hibiscus Roses), loved traveling to the mountains and going to the veterans store, NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, working in his yard, and his Silver Chevrolet Avalanche and his Dark Red Chevrolet Silverado.

                                                He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Brenda Souza; daughters from a previous marriage, Amy Stewart and Belinda Souza, seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; over twenty nieces and nephews; brothers, Danny Souza and Clayton Souza; special uncle Paul and cousin Bobby; special niece, and her husband, Linda and Bobby; his beloved fur babies, Haole, Kona, and Sweetie Pie.

                                                A graveside service with military honors will be held, Wednesday, March 6 at 2:00 P.M. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.
