Harry Albritton Sr. Obituary

FARMVILLE - Harry Humphrey Albritton, Sr. passed away on August 2, 2015, at Vidant Health InPatient Hospice at age 82. Harry was the son of lifelong Farmville residents, the late Ted and Sara Albritton.  Harry was fond of recounting that he had the best childhood growing up in Farmville. In high school, he excelled in football and basketball, which inspired his love of sports. His competitiveness led him to coach as well as play sports well into his seventies. After serving four years in the US Air Force, Harry graduated from East Carolina University in 1958. A proud Pirate to the end, he passionately supported East Carolina in both academics and athletics. Although he grew up in a farming family, he thrived in business, ultimately becoming Executive Vice President of Sales at Sara Lee Corporation. After a successful career, Harry returned to Farmville in 1998. Upon his return, he served on numerous local committees, devoting his time, energy, and unique perspective to the development and growth of the town he loved. Following in the Lang family tradition, he has supported the First Christian Church of Farmville in many capacities. Harry was well known for his generosity and his empathy for all people. Harry was one of a kind and a loving son, brother, athlete, veteran, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his adoring wife of 41 years, Joyce Matthews Albritton; three daughters, Ellen Albritton DiVergilio (husband John) of Fayetteville, GA, Laura Albritton Kienast (husband Mark) of Peachtree City, GA, and Amy Albritton Jeffs (husband Chris) of Roswell, GA; son Harry Humphrey Albritton Jr. (wife Lesley) of Farmville, NC; step-son Scott Shields; nine grandchildren; and sister Theodora Albritton McCracken (husband Emmett) of Bluffton, SC. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church of Farmville on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 3:00pm, reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Christian Church of Farmville, P.O. Box 250, Farmville, NC 27828. Online condolences may be made at www.farmville fh.com.
