Farmville…………………………..Irene Nelson Craft, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025. Irene was born on September 19, 1934, in Pitt County to Harvey and Bertha Nelson. Irene was a graduate of Ayden High School, where she discovered her passion for North Carolina history.
Irene made her home in Farmville, NC with her husband, Wesley Earl Craft and two children. She enjoyed traveling with her family through camping with the Local Camping Club and was a member of the Farmville Church of God. A devoted homemaker, Irene enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in various band performances, dance recitals, tennis matches, and more. After becoming a grandmother, she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and sharing her love for history, gardening, and camping.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Bertha Nelson; husband, Wesley Earl Craft; son, Wesley Allen Craft; and brother-in-law, Johnnie Mitchell Patterson.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Mary Wesley Craft of Raleigh, and Madeline Walker Craft of Farmville; sister, Rachel Nelson Patterson of Greenville; daughter, Wanda Craft Jenkins and husband, Ralph of Cedar Point; grandson, Christopher Parker and his wife, Summer of Rocky Mount, and their children, Cameron and Colby.
Funeral service will be held Monday, March 3, at 3:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Rick Bailey. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.
