Fountain………………………………….Johnny Ray Mangum, age 87, died Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, November 30, at 2:30 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jeff Holden and Rev. Larry Boone. Interment will follow at Queen Anne Cemetery in Fountain.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Mangum was a deacon for many years at the Fountain Baptist Church. He was on the Board of Directors for Pitt County Council on Aging, Fountain Wellness Center, and the Fountain Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Ruby Mangum; sister, Peggy Owens; sister-in-law, Nettie McLawhorn; grandson, Michael Payne; and special family addition, Virginia Bunn Mangum.
Cherished memories are left to his wife of 68 years, Joyce Sumlin Mangum; sons, Greg Mangum and wife, Barbara of Matthews and Stuart Mangum of Boone; brother, Arthur Grant Mangum of Rocky Mount; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Sumlin and wife, Diane of Fountain.
Flowers are welcome or those desiring to make a memorial may do so to Pitt County Council on Aging Meals on Wheels.
