Kenneth Cobb Obituary

Kenneth Eugene Cobb, 70, died on August 28th, 2024 at ECU Health Medical Center with his family by his side. He was a beloved father, husband, brother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Kenneth was survived by his wife Debbie Cobb, daughter Kensie Cobb, and brother Gilbert Cobb (wife Valerie Cobb). He was proceeded in death by his father Raymond Cobb, mother Edna Hardison Cobb, and sister Carolyn Oakley.

As the youngest of three children, Kenneth was born on April 12th, 1954 at his family home in Farmville. He grew up working on his family's farm and attended Greene Central High School. There he played trombone for the high school band and was on the high school basketball team. He was a member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church and played basketball in the church league.

After graduating, he worked as a disc jockey (in Farmville) for WFAG playing country music and later WRQR playing rock music. He loved being a DJ and had a beautiful deep voice that was made for the airwaves. When he moved to Greenville, he started working for Carolina Telephone (now Brightspeed). There, he worked as a Telephone technician for approximately 30 years and retired in 2018.

Kenneth was a loving husband to his wife Debbie, whom he was married to for 43 years, and a doting father to his daughter Kensie. He always made time to coach and attended her softball games. He loved going to the Outer Banks with his family, watching college sports, reading science fiction novels, pier fishing, playing golf, and singing. He was an amazing singer and was happy to lend his voice to any special occasion such as weddings, birthdays, graduations, ball games, and funerals.

Kenneth was a cancer and heart attack survivor and never took that for granted. He valued each day he was given with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.

A memorial service will be held at the Farmville Funeral Home on October 11th. Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm with the service to follow at 7:00 P.M. The service will be given by Rev. John Hill of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church.
