Kitty King

Farmville....................................Kitty King, beloved wife, mother, friend, and servant of her Lord, passed peacefully on June 18, 2026 surrounded by love.  She was 79.

 From the time she first sat at a piano bench at age six-encouraged by a kind church pianist who recognized her gift-Kitty’s life became a testament to the power of music offered in service.  What began as simple lessons grew into a lifelong ministry that touched generations across our community.

 Kitty followed her father, a Free Will Baptist minister to North Carolina from Poplar Bluff Missouri.  Kitty shared her talents widely, playing piano for many local congregations, including Wesley United Methodist Church, Monk Memorial Church, Dildas Grove Church, and numerous others.  Whether for Sunday services, revivals, special programs, or any occasion where music could lift hearts, Kitty answered the call.  She played and sang with the voice of an angel for countless weddings and funerals, marking life’s holiest milestones with grace-filled accompaniment.  The word “no” was one she used sparingly.  If there was a need, Kitty found a way to meet it.

  Her devotion extended beyond the keyboard.  Through the prayer shawl ministry she actively served, Kitty wrapped others in tangible comfort-hand-knitted and crocheted shawls and prayer patches carried by those for whom she prayed, young and old alike.  Her stitches were prayers; her music, a blessing; her presence, a quiet anchor of compassion and faith.

 Kitty’s legacy is one of joyful service, steadfast kindness, and a heart tuned to the needs of others. She loved her family deeply and her community wholeheartedly, offering prayer, song, and handmade comfort wherever they were needed most.

   May her music echo on in the lives she touched, and may we honor her memory by serving others with the same generous spirit.

  A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 P.M. at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens by Rev. Carlton Oakley.  The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

 Kitty is survived by her husband, Mack King Jr. of the home; daughter, Melody Crawford and husband, Kevin of Summerville, SC and Terry Daniel and husband, Joey of Rocky Mount; son, Bill King and wife, Melanie of Rocky Mount; sisters, Bo Sutton and husband, Eddie of Cove City and Lois Paul and husband, David of Vero Beach, FL; brothers, Dennis Venable and wife, Sylvia of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jordan Crawford, Landon Crawford, Morgan Wood and husband, Cody, and Logan Swindell; several nieces and nephews.
