Lee Roye lived a full and active life, graduating from Farmville Central Colored School in 1951 and enlisting in the United States Navy in the same year. He also married his high school sweetheart in 1951, when on leave from boot camp. Lee Roye was honorably discharged from the military after serving 4 years on the aircraft carrier the “S.S. Oriskiny” during the Korean War. God brought Lee Roye safely home from the war and led him to move his wife and family to New York.
In New York, Lee Roye was able to find employment with the U.S. Postal Service, remaining employed there for 36 years. He began as a janitor, then mail handler and finally as a Postal Police Officer. From an early age, Lee Roye grew in the knowledge and wisdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Upon his retirement from the postal service, Lee Roye “Brother Blue” pursued an education in Christian Ministry. Brother Blue completed both his Associate’s and his Bachelor’s degree in ministry in 2007 at the age of 76 years old.
He was later licensed to preach by the clergy of First Baptist Church of District Heights, Maryland. He was an active leader, teaching the Awana’s class, adult Sunday school and managing the church’s food pantry for four decades. Brother Blue always had prayer on his mind and in his spirit. When delivering food to families, he would ask them to join him in prayer and offered an invitation to salvation. During the recent pandemic, Brother Blue stayed connected with the other church members through a telephone ministry that occurred every Sunday morning. Brother Blue enjoyed their fellowship until only recently when illness prevented his participation.
Brother Blue, Lee Roye Blue Sr. will be loved and will be missed by his 4 children, his 8 grandchildren: Shanee Major Kelly (Wayne), Sheba Major French (Rahsaan), Christopher L.
