Greenville……………………………Mrs. Magdeline Lancaster passed away peacefully at her home, January 15, 2021 at the age of 87. She was born April 27, 1933 in Nash County, NC to Johnnie M. Hathaway and Ida Sledge Hathaway and grew up in Spring Hope, NC. She married Weldon P. Lancaster on December 27, 1956 they were married until his death in 2003.
In June of 1960, after living in Raleigh, NC for a short time, she moved with her family to Greenville, NC. Mrs. Lancaster was a homemaker and in the late 1960’s started a successful in- home daycare business which she ran for more than twenty-five years.
Among her many talents and hobbies, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and as she called it “experimenting in the kitchen” by coming up with new recipes or putting her unique twist on an old favorite. She was also an accomplished self-taught seamstress, making handmade clothes for herself, her family and many others as well.
In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Lancaster was preceded in death by her husband Weldon P. Lancaster, parents Johnnie and Ida Hathaway, sister Eva Mae Al-Muhja and brother Marvin A. Hathaway. She is survived by her son Donald W. Lancaster and his fianceĢe, Donna Thomas, and grandson Andrew Lancaster.
A Graveside service is planned for Tuesday January 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
