Walstonburg…………………Margaret Estille Summerlin Dildy, age 92, died Monday, December 18, 2023.
Graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 20, at
11:00 A.M. at the Walstonburg Cemetery by Rev. Michael Woolard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
Mrs. Dildy was a native of Edgecombe County and a graduate of Edgecombe County High School. She worked for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company/Sprint in Tarboro and Wake Forest 42 years, until her retirement. After retirement, she worked for Strickland Dail Dining. She loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She found great joy in exercising with her friends at the Farmville Senior Citizens Center and eating with her girlfriends on Wednesdays. She loved being with people, so no matter where she went, she never met a stranger. She was a member of Pinetops Presbyterian Church and attended Spring Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Edward Dildy; parents, Jessie Thomas and Sally Ann Hardy Summerlin; sisters, Irene Hendrickson and Lucille Proctor; brothers, Jessie Thomas Summerlin Jr., John Robert Summerlin, Melvin Earl Summerlin, and Hardy Pitt Summerlin.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Dildy Carraway (Jerry) of Walstonburg; grandchildren, Kyle Alan Carraway (Sarah) of Stantonsburg, and Meredith Carraway Harper (James) of Snow Hill; great grandchildren, Brady Alan Carraway, Walker Bryant Carraway, Lucas Reid Carraway, Jacob Henry Harper, and Avery James Harper.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to consider a donation to Spring Branch Free Will Baptist Church, 1863 Craft Road, Walstonburg, NC 27888 or to the charity of your choice.
