Mary Jones Obituary

Mary P. Jones, 78, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by all who loved her.

Visitation will be held at Kings Cross Roads OFWB Church in Fountain, NC on Wednesday, April 12th at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. and burial immediately following at Queen Anne Cemetery in Fountain, NC, conducted by Pastor Bruce Jones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Dora Pollard, her brothers, Garland Jr., JW, Gary and Bobby Pollard, two sisters, Irene Walston and Claudia Hardy.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Jones, daughters, Janet Smith and Husband, Todd of Greenville, NC, Kimberly Toomer and husband, Brandon of Winterville, NC; Step-son, Robbie Jones and Wife, Delance Gill of Elm City, NC; Step-daughter, Jennie Gilbert and Husband Lewis of Nashville, NC; Grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Greyson Smith, Lauren Smith, Zachary Toomer, Gaston King, Jenna King and Great Grandson, Wayland Gupton; Sisters, Jeanette Elks of Plymouth, NC and Charlotte Deans and Husband, JR of Macclesfield, NC; Sister-n-law, Carolyn Pollard of Fountain, NC.

She was born to Garland and Dora Pollard of Fountain, NC and was 1 of 11 children.  She graduated from Belvoir Falkland High School in 1963 and worked for various companies in Pitt County until her retirement with the Pitt County Tax Assessor’s Office.  During her retirement, she worked for Pitt County Board of Elections for many years as a Poll Worker in many different capacities and locations.  She was a lifelong member of Kings Cross Roads OFWB Church.  She was a member of the Choir, Woman’s Auxiliary,  served on several committees such as gathering donations for the Harvest Festival, made sunshine baskets and cooked meals for the sick and elderly in the church and her neighbors.  She truly had a servant’s heart and was always thinking of others.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them play sports or attending other events they were a part of.  One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards, several hours at a time, with her sisters as well as, taking trips with them.  Her drink of choice was always a Pepsi Cola and she definitely could not pass by a good yard sale because surly she would find a special treasure there.

Her departure from this earth has left a very big space to fill in our hearts and our lives.  We will miss seeing and talking to her, but we are comforted in knowing that she is in her heavenly home with her parents, siblings and friends who passed before her and we will see her again and when we do, that reunion will be a special one indeed.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Phoebe Barnes and Angie Owens.  You are angels on earth and we are forever grateful for the loving care you gave to our Mother in her final weeks.

Flowers are welcome or memorials can be made in her honor to Kings Cross Roads OFWB Church c/o Woman’s Auxiliary, 2080 Seven Pines Road, Fountain, NC 27829.
