Walstonburg………………………...Naomi Lewis Tugwell died April 10, 2026, and is now celebrating her new life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
A native of Edgecombe County, Naomi was born on November 28, 1932, to the late John Paul and Nellie Pittman Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Bruce Neal Tugwell and brothers, Holt L. Lewis and Patrick C. Lewis
Naomi married her beloved husband, Bruce Neal, on August 17, 1951, and they established their home on the family farm where they worked side by side until his death. Together, they raised two children, Teresa and Neal. She was a devoted wife and mother with her greatest pride and joy being “Mema” to grandsons, Blake and Tyler (Amanda). In addition to farming with her husband, she worked 30 years with Moore’s Wholesale, retiring at age 75. She loved her country home and family farm and lived there 63½ years. Naomi was a charter member of Carraway’s Presbyterian Church, where she served as pianist, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and was a member of the Ladies Circle. She later became a member of the Fountain Presbyterian Church.
Naomi loved the fellowship of family and friends and thrived on relationships with others. She was a humble and faithful servant and family caregiver throughout her life and will be remembered as a gracious hostess and true southern homemaker.
Her door was always open and inviting with plenty of food on the table. Life on the farm was always exciting and a gathering place for many, whether it be last-minute cookouts, kids riding four-wheelers and driving tractors around the farm paths, fishing in the pond, running through the house playing, or being chased with a switch. Discipline was never negotiable.
The life lessons you taught have shaped our lives in order to adapt to life’s challenges and embrace life’s opportunities. You will always be loved.
Exodus 20:12
“Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
It is comforting to know as a Christian, there is hope in Heaven and being absent from the body assures presence with the Lord.
