A graveside service will be held Sunday, February 21 at 2 pm at Queen Anne Cemetery near Fountain. Those attending are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing. Roscoe served in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart. Following a medical discharge, he returned home to Fountain, NC, where he met and married his wife of 68 years, Peggy Tugwell Eason. Over the years he worked as a grocer and an appliance repairman before becoming Director of Maintenance for the Farmville Public Housing Authority. Throughout the years, he often used his skills to complete innumerable repair and home improvement projects for family, church, and friends.
After accepting Christ as a young man, Roscoe became an active member of King's Cross Roads OFWB Church, where he served as a deacon and as a teacher for the Junior Boys and later the Young Adult Sunday School class. His service to the Lord continued at Free Union OFWB Church in many capacities: deacon, Laymen's League member, Sunday School teacher, and always willing volunteer. He was well known for years as the man behind the camera, faithfully filming and distributing VHS recordings of services long before streaming became the norm.
In retirement, Roscoe and Peggy could often be found enjoying trips to Cragmont or heading out on their boat to go fishing. The couple enjoyed many other travels with family and friends, including a nationwide bus tour.
Roscoe's servant heart was well-known and appreciated by all who visited his home near Fountain, whether for a brief visit or a large gathering. He would offer a snack and a smile or just a listening ear. One of his greatest joys was found in his family all being together. This tradition continued outdoors or via video calls in the last year, and on through his final hours at the hospital surrounded by those he loved most.
Along with his wife Peggy, he is survived by his children, Roger Lynn Eason of Jamesville, Sheryll Eason Wood and husband Philip of Greenville, and Anthony Wayne (Tony) Eason and wife Amy of Troutman, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Michelle Renee Wood, Tiffany Elise Wood Hall and husband Lin, Andrew Philip Wood and wife Emma, Madison Eason Savage and husband Locke, Logan McKenzie Eason, Spenser McKade Eason, and Reilly Morgan Eason; and two great-grandchildren, Skylar Elena Hall and Derek Alexander Hall.
The family would also like to thank nephew David Tugwell and his wife, Bett, who live nearby and have been such a faithful support team in constantly checking on Roscoe and Peggy, and helping them whenever anything was needed through his years of declining health.
