Farmville………………………Rudell Matthews Ellis, age 94, died Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16 at 2:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ellis was born January 27, 1930. She attended the NC School for the Deaf in Morganton where she played on the basketball team, was a member of the Pep Squad, and was also a member of the homecoming court. She graduated in 1952, and after graduation she worked with FCX in Raleigh. On February 7, 1954 she married Melvin Ellis and they moved to Farmville. Together they owned and operated Ellis Jewelers for forty-eight years until their retirement. Mrs. Ellis loved spending time at the beach with her family, was a member of Arlington Blvd. Baptist Church, and the Deaf Senior Citizens of Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Ellis; and her parents, Alton and Bessie Matthews.
She is survived by her daughters, Martha Williamson (Bob) of Clayton and Betsy Moore (Chris) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Chase Moore and Sara Williamson; brother-in-law, Billy Ellis and wife, Marie; sister-in-law, Jean Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.
