Taylor Eugene “Gene” Martin, age 85, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 28 at 2:00 P.M. at First Christian Church in Farmville by Rev. Morgan Daughety. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M.
After his service in the Army during the Vietnam War, Mr. Martin worked 20 years at United Virginia Bank in Lynchburg, VA. He received the call to minister in 1984, where he attended Wake Forest Seminary, receiving his doctorate five years later, all while working full time to support his wife and three children.
Mr. Martin served as pastor in Mebane, and Deep Run, NC before moving to Snow Hill, NC in 1996. He was pastor of Snow Hill First Baptist Church for 15 years before transferring to Riverside Baptist Church in Merry Hill, NC, where he served an additional 10 years, teaching the word of God, before retiring in 2021. Mr. Martin moved to Farmville, NC where he continued to preach the word of God to anyone and everyone he met.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Martin and daughter, Melanie Martin.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Martin and son, Todd Martin, both of Ammerst, VA; brother, Talmadge Martin of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Courtney Martin, Amber Bryant, Bret Webb, Greg Martin, Kayla Martin, Madelynn Rayne Martin, Meegan Rhyleigh Martin, Merrick Rowan Martin, Morrigan Rose Martin; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Webb, Michael Webb, Wyatt Webb, Killian Bryant, Zane Bryant, Alayna Martin, Layla Edwards, Logan Martin and Scarlett Martin.
