William Whitley Obituary

Farmville ………… William Thomas Whitley, “Tommy” age 68 of Farmville passed away peacefully at University Healthcare on November 23, 2025.

Tommy was a member of Marlboro Original Free Will Baptist Church of Farmville where he participated in the choir, taught Sunday School and was an active a member of the Laymen’s League.

Tommy was raised in Farmville and graduated from Farmville Central High School. Along with his father and brother, he owned and operated CARQUEST for many generations.

His true passion was coaching for Farmville Central High School including Football, Softball, and Baseball. In his spare time he would be found Umpiring for all of eastern North Carolina. Every summer he attended and participated in training the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. Tommy also assisted with Farmville Parks and Recreation.

Tommy acquired many nicknames during his life including Coach Whit, and Wombat.

There were so many lives touched by Tommy’s coaching, guidance, and loving support! May his wisdom and guidance live on to future generations.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, William “Bob” Whitley, his mother, Ruby Ellis Whitley, and his brother David Whitley. He leaves behind to cherish his memories,  loving nieces and nephews Amanda Joyner (Keith) of Farmville, Jessica Berry (Hank) of Scranton,  Jonathan Whitley (Trisha) of Greenville, James Whitley (Amber) of Washington, and Tiffany Bartlett (Eric) of  Goldsboro, sister-in-law Annette Whitley and great-nieces and nephews Haley, Alton, Bo, Nolan, Jacob, Wesley, Alex, Zoey, Harper, Samuel, Ellie, and Judah.

A very special thanks to his great friends Kim and Miss G. Who loved and cared for Tommy for many years.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home by Pastor Kevin Jackson. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
